The Difference Between Memory Foam Mattresses and Coil Spring Mattresses

October 30th, 2009 ~ No Comments

Have you ever thought about how anyone decided to begin sleeping on springs in the first instance ? I mean, think about it for a moment , what would you feel like to lay down on the bare springs? And why laying on springs with some type of covering over them, is considered any better?

The invention of an innerspring mattress was first documented, by patent, in 1865, and there have just been some minor changes, to that first construction , in the next 140 years. During the same period, we went from plowing soil with oxen, to people travelling to space. Don’t you think it’s conceivable that we could invent new ideas and materials to improve the mattresses we spend 1/3 of our lives on?

The differences between an ordinary coil spring mattress and a memory foam mattress, will be shown , to help you understand the difference.

The Distinction In Complete Body Support

One characteristic , in which a memory foam mattress is more suitable for you is the feature of complete body support. A memory foam mattress and a coil spring mattress differ a lot in this respect. A coil spring mattress makes your body adjust to it. force , from the coil springs, in the mattress, is directed at your body. It’s like a push and shove match. Your body is pushing down on the springs, forcing them to retreat and they’re shoving back against you, trying to uncoil. On a coil spring mattress, your body is supposed to adjust to the mattress’s shape. This is why you suffer from sore muscles and stiffness, when you wake up in the morning. With the best memory foam mattress, the opposite happens. The memory foam conforms to your body, because it’s your body that pushes it’s force onto it. So, as you lie on it , you will observe the memory foam changing to support you, leaving you with a feeling of total relaxation. It is because of this feature, of a memory foam mattress, to totally support you and conform adapt to your weight, that the movements of the other person in the bed will not disturb you. For innerspring mattresses do not adapt to your shape, they cannot spread your weight evenly. If you’re going to use your mattress with an adjustable bed, memory foam provides much more elasticity allowing you to benefit from the full range of motion an adjustable bed offers.

Another Difference Is Sensitivity to Temperature

Another distinction, between innerspring and memory foam mattresses, is that memory foam mattresses are able to respond to temperature . The memory foam can define the various temperatures of your body and either be hard or become soft . This leaves you with a great feeling of comfort when it has absorbed your warmth and gets softer. Innerspring mattresses are unable to do such a thing. They are unable to respond to your body heat, and this is why anyone , who has a fever, would be much more comfortable on a memory foam mattress.

Visit your local mattress shop to try and lie on the coil mattress vs. the memory foam mattress and feel the difference in comfort levels.
